Metabolic & Diabetes Management

Our Therapies

Exercise strategies to manage blood sugar and metabolic health.

Take control of your metabolic health

Whether you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, told you are pre diabetic, or are simply concerned about your metabolic health, exercise is one of the most powerful tools available to you. Our Exercise Physiologists design programs that work alongside your medical care to improve your blood sugar control, increase your energy, and reduce your risk of complications.

Further than "move more"

Most people have already been told to exercise. What they have not been told is how exercise affects their blood glucose, how to time activity around meals and medication, or how to recognise and respond to a change in their levels. That is the part we teach. The physical program combines aerobic exercise and resistance training, and the education runs alongside it so you understand what is happening inside your body rather than following instructions blindly.

Your assessment, then your program

The initial assessment covers your blood sugar patterns, your medications, any diabetes related complications such as neuropathy, and your current activity levels. Your program is built from there and starts at a level that suits you. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, typically once or twice a week, and you get a simple home program for the days in between.

Who this program suits

This program is designed for people managing Type 2 diabetes, pre diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or insulin resistance. It is also valuable for people with Type 1 diabetes who want to better understand how exercise affects their glucose levels. We work with clients who have never exercised before and with clients who are already active but want professional guidance.

Common Questions

Yes. We begin at your current level, even if that means chair based exercise. Progress is gradual and guided.
We recommend checking before and after initially. Your Exercise Physiologist will give you clear targets and tell you what to do if your levels are outside them.

What else might help

Metabolic health is closely linked with cardiovascular fitness. Elements of our Pulmonary Rehab and Cancer Rehab programs often complement this stream. If you are also managing chronic pain or a neurological condition, your program will be coordinated accordingly.
