Why Do Sydneysiders Choose iRehab for Physio?

iRehab is one of the few Sydney practices where Physiotherapists and ESSA accredited Exercise Physiologists work from the same clinics under one plan. That matters because diagnosis and long-term rehabilitation are different jobs. A Physiotherapist assesses your injury, identifies the cause and treats it hands on. An Exercise Physiologist rebuilds the strength, movement and conditioning that keep the problem from returning. When both professions share your file, nothing is lost between the acute phase and the recovery phase.

Three reasons Sydney clients refer to us:

  • Both professions in one place, so you never restart your story with a new provider.
  • In-clinic or mobile. If you cannot get to us in North Rocks or Five Dock, we come to you anywhere in Sydney.
  • Every major funding pathway handled: Medicare Chronic Condition Management Plans, NDIS, WorkCover, CTP and DVA.

Conditions Our Sydney Physiotherapists Treat

The services above describe how we work. Below is what people actually arrive with, in the words they use on the phone.

Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist:
Which Do You Need?

The short answer is that it depends on the stage of your recovery. Physiotherapists diagnose injuries and treat them with manual therapy and exercise. Exercise Physiologists prescribe structured exercise programs for rehabilitation, chronic conditions and long-term health. Many iRehab clients see both: physio first, exercise physiology as recovery turns into rebuilding.
Feature Physiotherapist Exercise Physiologist
Best for New injuries, pain diagnosis, hands-on treatment Rehabilitation, chronic conditions, strength rebuilding

Your First Appointment, Step by Step

  1. Tell us your story. Your physiotherapist takes a full history: the injury or condition, what you have tried, and what you want to get back to.
  2. Physical assessment. Movement testing, strength checks and specific orthopaedic tests. In most cases this is enough to diagnose the problem without imaging.
  3. Treatment starts day one. Hands-on treatment where it helps, plus the first exercises from your program.
  4. A written plan. You leave knowing how many sessions to expect, what to do at home, and which funding pathway applies if you have one.

Initial appointments run longer than follow-ups so the assessment is not rushed.

What Should You Bring to a Physio Appointment?

  • Any referral or care plan paperwork from your GP.
  • Scan and imaging reports if you have had them. Bring the written report, not only the images.
  • Your Medicare card, DVA card, NDIS plan details or claim number, depending on how you are funding the visit.
  • A list of the medications you currently take.
  • Clothing you can move in. For a knee or hip problem, shorts help. For a shoulder, a singlet or a loose t-shirt.
  • The shoes you actually walk or run in, rather than your newest pair.

If you do not have the paperwork yet, come anyway. Reception can chase most of it while you are being assessed.

How Do You Pay for Physio in Sydney?

Medicare care plans

If you have a chronic condition that has lasted six months or more, your GP can put you on a Chronic Condition Management Plan. That plan provides up to 5 Medicare-subsidised allied health visits per calendar year, and physiotherapy and exercise physiology both count. From 1 July 2025 these plans replaced the older GP Management Plans (often called EPC plans), and existing plans stay valid until 30 June 2027.

NDIS

iRehab is a registered NDIS provider (4-3LLM-2259). Physiotherapy and exercise physiology can be funded under your plan.

iCare logo

Workers compensation (iCare NSW)

Workplace injuries and motor accidents are covered under NSW workers compensation and the CTP scheme. We handle the SIRA paperwork and recovery requests with your insurer.

DVA logo

DVA (Veterans Affairs)

Veterans with a Gold Card, or a White Card for accepted conditions, can access physiotherapy and exercise physiology through a GP referral under the DVA allied health treatment cycle.

The People Who Will Treat You

iRehab is led by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and staffed by accredited and registered practitioners across both professions.

Reading From Our Clinicians

Physio Sydney: Questions We Hear Every Week

Yes, in a limited way. With a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, Medicare subsidises up to 5 allied health visits per calendar year, and those visits can be physiotherapy or exercise physiology. Without a care plan, physiotherapy is privately funded in Australia. Source: Services Australia.

No. You can book directly for private treatment. A GP referral is needed when you are claiming through Medicare care plans, DVA or the NSW workers compensation scheme (for Exercise Physiologist sessions), and it helps us coordinate with your doctor.

Neither is better; the roles are different. Physiotherapists diagnose injuries and deliver hands-on treatment. Exercise Physiologists are ESSA accredited professionals who prescribe exercise for rehabilitation and chronic conditions. At iRehab the two work in sequence on the same plan.

Look for a registered physiotherapist who assesses you thoroughly before treating, explains a diagnosis in plain language, gives you a written plan and coordinates with your GP. Check Google reviews and whether the clinic accepts your funding pathway. iRehab offers both professions and every major funding type in one place.

iRehab has two clinics: 328-336 N Rocks Rd, North Rocks NSW 2151, and 451 Lyons Rd W, Five Dock NSW 2046. Both are reachable on 02 9613 3751. For physiotherapy near you elsewhere in Sydney, our mobile service covers the city.
