Recovery Should Not Depend on a Lift, a Bus or a Good Day
Some people miss physiotherapy not because they don’t want it, but because the logistics beat them. A recent surgery. No car after an accident. A parent who will not agree to “one more appointment across town”. Mobile rehab removes that barrier: the therapist arrives, sets up, and your lounge room, bedroom or facility gym becomes the clinic.
For many clients, home-based rehab also works better. You exercise in the space where you actually live, on the stairs you actually climb, with the furniture you actually use.
Who Uses iRehab Mobile Rehab?
After surgery or hospital discharge
Joint replacements, cardiac surgery, stroke recovery: the first weeks home are when guided rehab matters most.
Living with a disability (NDIS)
Physiotherapy and exercise physiology for NDIS participants at home, in SIL or SDA residences, or in the community.
Older Australians and aged care
Residents of aged care facilities and retirement villages, and seniors living at home who want to stay independent.
Workplace injuries
Return-to-work rehab at home or at the workplace under NSW workers compensation.
Chronic conditions
Diabetes, COPD, heart disease, Parkinson's, MS and other long-term conditions managed through clinical exercise at home.
Anyone who cannot travel
Transport limits, anxiety, fatigue or caring responsibilities: if the clinic is out of reach, mobile rehab is the answer.
What a Mobile Rehab Visit Looks Like
- Phone assessment first. We take your history, goals and funding details before the therapist travels.
- Full assessment at your place. Movement, strength and balance testing in your own environment.
- Treatment and exercise. Hands-on treatment from a Physiotherapist, or a structured exercise program from an Exercise Physiologist, using portable equipment we bring.
- Home program and reporting. Written exercises for between visits, and progress reports to your GP, NDIS plan manager or insurer where required.
What Does the Therapist Actually Bring With Them?
Enough to run a full assessment and a full session, carried in by one person, with no equipment left behind unless your program needs it.
Assessment tools.
Goniometer for joint range, dynamometer or hand-held strength testing where the program calls for it, blood pressure monitor and pulse oximeter for clients with cardiac or respiratory conditions, and standardised balance and gait tests that need nothing but a chair and a measured walking distance.
Exercise equipment.
Resistance bands across several strengths, portable hand weights, a step, and balance equipment such as a foam pad or cushion.
For physiotherapy sessions.
A portable treatment plinth where the space allows it, plus manual therapy and dry needling supplies. Where a plinth will not fit, the bed or a firm dining chair is used instead, which is often more useful anyway because it is where the problem actually happens.
What stays with you.
A written home program. If your program needs a band or a specific piece of equipment between visits, we will tell you what to get and where, rather than leaving you guessing.
How Should You Prepare Your Home for a Visit?
Very little is needed, and nobody expects a tidy house.
- Space. A clear area roughly two metres square. A lounge room with a coffee table pushed aside is plenty.
- A sturdy chair. A dining chair without arms, or with arms if standing up is difficult. This is used in most sessions.
- Somewhere to hold on to. A kitchen bench, a heavy chair back or a door frame, for balance work.
- Footwear. Wear the shoes you normally walk in. Bare feet or socks on floorboards are a fall risk during balance exercises.
- Pets. Dogs underfoot during balance training are genuinely unsafe. A closed door for the session is enough.
- Paperwork. Have your referral, plan or claim details somewhere findable.
- Someone else, if you want. A partner, adult child or carer is welcome to sit in, and for many clients it helps that a second person hears the program.
If parking near your home is difficult, mention it when you book. It affects how the visit is scheduled, not whether it happens.
Arrange Mobile Rehab in Sydney
Mobile Physiotherapy or Mobile Exercise Physiology?
The short answer is that it depends on the stage of your recovery. Physiotherapists diagnose injuries and treat them with manual therapy and exercise. Exercise Physiologists prescribe structured exercise programs for rehabilitation, chronic conditions and long-term health. Many iRehab clients see both: physio first, exercise physiology as recovery turns into rebuilding.

How Is Mobile Rehab Funded?
NDIS
iRehab is a registered NDIS provider (4-3LLM-2259). Mobile therapy is commonly funded under Capacity Building and Improved Daily Living supports.
WorkCover, CTP and DVA
NSW workers compensation, motor accident claims and DVA referrals all cover mobile treatment where clinically appropriate.
Medicare care plans
With a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan you can use up to 5 Medicare-subsidised allied health visits per calendar year; the services must be individual and at least 20 minutes, and telehealth items also exist. Source: Services Australia
What Does a Mobile Rehab Program Look Like Over Twelve Weeks?
Assessment & Setting Up
The first visit is longer than the rest. Full assessment, goals agreed in writing, and a small home program you can actually manage. For post-surgical and post-hospital clients this phase often runs twice weekly.
Building Phase
The program progresses as strength and confidence return. Reports go to your GP, plan manager or insurer where the funding requires them.
Consolidating Phase
The home program does most of the work by this stage, and the visit exists to progress it and check technique.
Review & Next Steps
Re-assessment against the baseline taken in week one. Some clients finish here. Others move to a maintenance visit every four to six weeks (common for NDIS and aged care to hold function).
For Facilities, Plan Managers and Discharge Planners
Residential aged care and retirement villages. iRehab schedules recurring visits under facility service agreements, coordinating with nursing and care staff and contributing to care planning.
Hospital discharge planners. Mobile physiotherapy and exercise physiology can start in the first weeks at home, which is when guided rehabilitation matters most after a joint replacement, a cardiac event or a stroke.
NDIS support coordinators and plan managers. Send the participant’s plan or funding pages, their goals, and any manual handling or behaviour support considerations.
Insurers and case managers. Treatment under NSW workers compensation and CTP with reporting at each scheme’s required points.
